Hurst Green lucky to take all 3pts!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 1 game last weekend their Senior Men’s side in action against 2nd place Hurst Green, in a game full of good football the Burnley side were on top throughout the first half, both sides came out for the second with all guns blazing 2 good goals saw a 1-1 score line with 1 minute to go a moments lapse of concentration saw Hurst Green grab all 3pts. This was a good pointer as to how far this team have come on this season, promoted last year and the aim was to stay up the first season, they now find themselves mid-table.

Ladies on wrong end of Seven!!

Only the one game at the weekend for Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club, their Senior Women’s side came up against inform Warrington, losing 7-1. Lindsay Shearer scored the goal and Nicola Cassidy was The Player of the Match. United’s Ladies worked hard and had the chances earlier on in the game but failed to find the back of the net. Warrington got stronger and confidence took over.

Women United in draw!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 fixtures last week their Senior Women’s side came away with a creditable 2-2 draw with Blackpool FC. Claire Newton and Charley Ross scored the goals and the hard working Michelle Grimes was The Player of the Match.

Under 15 Girls lost 4-3 when they took on Thornton Ladies, Meghan Wilson scored 2 and Roxanne Waine grabbed the third. Mel Mitchell was The Player of the Match.

Under 15 lost 4-1 to Rishton, Adam Simpson scored the goal and Mabashar Iqbal was The Man of the Match.

Under 14’s lost 4-0 to Clitheroe Wolves, Anthony Bradley was The Man of the Match.

Under 14's in 11 goal thriller!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 2 games last weekend their U/15 lost a very close game with AKZO 4-3 with Shane Hudson scoring 2, and 1 from Alex Stuart, The Man of the Match was James Cowgill.

Under 14’s beat Gt Harwood 6-5 with goals from Danny Martin 2, 1 each from Anthony Bradley, Jack Bell, Ryan Bench and The Man of the Match Dion Clegg.

RACHEL BROWN VISITS OUR UNDER 15'S!The Under 15s Girls had a VIP visitor to a recent training session. Rachel Brown the Everton and England goalkeeper paid them a visit to share her knowledge and her experience with the budding stars of the future. She gave personal tuition to several of the players and a good time was had by all. See our Photo Gallery for more pictures.

Seniors unite for fourth win in a row!!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 3 fixtures last weekend their Senior Men’s team beat Colne 3-0. The first half was very even but Borrowdale took over in the second being by far the fitter side and with three good goals from Ash Williams, Chris Walker and The Man of the Match Antony Young, United took all 3 points.

Under 14’s beat Rishton 2-0 with goals from Josh Horner and Dion Clegg. The Man of the Match Award went to the whole squad for this terrific result.

Under 15’s made it a hat-trick of wins for this Burnley Club, a 2-1 win over Blackburn Town, United with only 10 players fought hard for this victory, Michael Martin and Shane Hudson scored the goals and Sam Burrows was The Man of the Match.

THIRD WIN IN THREE FOR SENIORS

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 games last weekend their Senior Men’s side won again beating Settle 4-3, United still conceding too many goals were up against a side battling against relegation, Settle worked hard throughout and battled for everything. Borrowdale withstood a lot of pressure during the last 20 minutes but the victory was never in doubt. United’s goals scored by The Man of the Match Antony Young with 2, Scott Threlfall with a stunning right foot lob from 30 yards and Ash Williams. United now climb to 7th in their first season in the top division.

United’s Ladies took on high flying Burscough winning a very close game 3-2. The goals came from Sarah Darcy, Charlie Ross and the winner from Michelle Grimes. Claire Newton once again The Player of the Match. This was a great win for the girls they all worked hard throughout the match playing some good football.

U/15 Girls lost 6-2 against league leaders Penwortham. Meghan Wilson grabbed the 2 goals and Gemma Holt was The Player of the Match. United’s girls played well throughout the game, a much improved performance this week.

U/15 lost 6-1 to Oswaldtwistle, Shane Hudson scored the goal and the hard working James Cowgill was The Man of the Match.



Under 15s draw in local derby

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 3 fixtures last weekend the U/15's took on Haslingden drawing a good game 2-2, Shane Hudson scored both goals. The Man of the Match was Adam Simpson.
The Senior Men’s side took on relegation candidates Kelbrook and found them full of fight, United finally won the game 5-4, but had to pull out all the stops, 2 goals each for Ash Williams and Mark Philips and the fifth from The Man of the Match Antony Young.
U/14 held Rishton to 1-1 draw with Anthony Bradley scoring the goal and Callum Brown being The Man of the Match

United do double over sorry Mill Hill!!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 2 games last weekend their Senior Men’s side beat high flying Mill Hill from Blackburn 3-2. United once again with a depleted side lost their goalkeeper after 2 minutes with a leg injury and after hitting the cross bar twice in a minute things were not going for them. They went behind mid way through the half and then the whole team started to play it was quite a battle with strong very physical challenges going in left right and centre. Ash Williams equalized with a goal any professional would have been proud of,then Scott Threlfall went one on one with the keeper and fired wide, it happened again a short time later, he didn’t miss the target this time and with less than ten mins to go Ash williams wrapped up the game scoring his 2nd of the game. The Man of the Match went to Antony Young, but to be honest all 11 deserved the accolade for their efforts.

The Open Age Women’s side took on Knotty Ash and were held to a 1-1 draw. United’s goal scored by the impressive Claire Newton. Lindsay Shearer was The Player of the Match in a game that saw Knotty Ash gain a disputed penalty to draw level. The Burnley side played some good football throughout but were unable to put the ball in the net.

United Ladies 0 - 1 Everton Ladies!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 fixtures last weekend their Senior Men’s side came up against a very much in form league leaders Rimington. The visitors hit Burnley for 9 without reply. The first half was very close, but the second, came the onslaught. The Burnley side had key players unavailable through work commitments and injury. United’s Man of the Match was Antony Young.

Women’s Open Age side took on Everton losing a very close game 1-0. United claim they had scored in the second half but the Referee said the ball had not crossed the line. This was an excellent team performance. Nikki Cassidy was The Player of the Match.

U/15 Girls lost 6-4 to Wilpshire after extra time in a thrilling cup tie. This was a great advert for Girls Football, some superb football played by both sides. Meghan Wilson, Gemma Holt, Steph Johnson and Roxanne Wain scored the goals and Mel Mitchell was The Player of the Match.

U/14 beat Rossendale Valley 5-4 with Anthony Bradley and Josh Horner scoring twice, Ryan Bench with 1. The Man of the Match went to Josh Horner.

Men back to winning ways!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had just two games last weekend their Senior Men’s side got back to their best coming from 2-1 down to beat Enfield 4-2, United’s Scott Threlfall bagging a great hat-trick one with his left foot one with the right and a glorious headed goal from an exquisite cross from the other scorer Mark Philips. Antony Young was The Man of the Match.

The Open Age women’s side lost 11-2 to high flying Penrith, Michelle Grimes and Claire Newton scored the goals and the outstanding Charley Ross showing great leadership qualities was The Player of the Match.

Presidents Cup loss!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 5 games last weekend, their Senior Men’s side went out of the Presidents Cup losing 3-1 to Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s, Antony Young scored the goal and was The Man of the Match. United looked jaded throughout and were second to every ball. The Open Age Women’s side lost 3-1 to Liverpool, Sarah Darcy scored the goal and the hard working Charley Ross was The Player of the Match. This was a very good game in which United played some good football against a very good side.

Under 15 Girls lost 10-2 to AGSA, Steph Johnson and The Player of the Match Meghan Wilson scored the goals.

Under 15’s lost 2-0 when they took on AKZO, Nicolo Manta was The Man of the Match.

Under 14’s lost a very good game 3-2 against Rishton. This was a good advert for junior football, fair but competitive, Josh Holmes and Dion Clegg scored the goals and Callam Brown was The Man of the Match.

Mens and Ladies hit for seven!!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 2 games at the weekend their Senior Men’s side came up against the best footballing side in the East Lancashire League when they lost 7-1 to Hurst Green, you can see why they have progressed to the semi’s of the Lancashire Amateur Cup.

We were up against it from the off having players out injured did not help but we could not cope with their incessant pressure. Scott Threlfall took one of very few chances the frontmen got with a cool finish under pressure. The Man of the Match was shared between Antony Young and Mark Harrison.

The Ladies suffered a similar defeat 7-1 to Wigan, Sarah McCabe scored the goal and won The Player of the Match Award

Under 15's shine as United slump on all other fronts!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 5 games last week their senior men’s side lost 2-0 to Worsthorne with a well under par performance Mark Harrison was The Man of the Match the lay off looks to have set the lads back a long way as they looked very lethargic, we need to build them up for a very important away fixture against the very strong Hurst Green next week.

Senior Women’s side played on form Chorley losing 7-0, never at the races the Burnley side put the work in during the second half by then it was too late.

Under 14’s held Brierfield Celtic to a 2-2 draw, Anthony Bradley and Josh Holmes scored the goals and Dion Clegg was The Man of the Match.

Under 15’s beat Clitheroe Wolves 5-0, with goals coming from Adam Simson 3, Nathan McMullen and Michael Martyn 1 each. The Man of the Match Award was shared between Adam Simpson and Josh Whitehead.

Under 15 Girls lost heavily 12-1 against Readstone, Meghan Wilson scored the goal and was also The Player of the match.

Club Officals

The Open Age Women's side are looking for a couple of players, they play in the prestigious North West Regional Women's League.

The Senior Men's team play in the First Division of the East Lancashire Football League are looking for a local midfield player and are interested in signing a centre half and a striker.

Ken is happy with our position in our first season in the top division but is already looking at next season wanting to improve the squad.

Under 15’s lost a very close game against Feniscowles 3-2, Michael Martyn and Danny Carter scored the goals and Alex Noon was superb as The Man of the Match.

Under 15 Girls lost 6-1 to Brandlesholme, Meghan Wilson scored the goal and was The Player of the Match.

fourth win in five games for United!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 3 fixtures last week their Senior Men’s side beat Peel Park 4-2, a good game to start the new year with a great hat-trick from Scott Threlfall, a fourth from Mark Philips although he missed a penalty in the dying minutes of the game, Mark Harrison United’s Keeper makes 2 brilliant saves to keep his side in it and a Match winning performance from Antony Young. A difficult decision for the Man of the Match but it went to Antony Young. United started this game very poorly the majority of the team looked very sluggish, they went behind before they woke up, in the second half they gradually clawed their way back into finishing well on top.

Under 15 lost 11-1 to high flying AKZO Green, Shane Hudson scored the goal and Stuart Sharples was The Man of the Match.

Under 15 Girls lost 10-1 to leaders Wilpshire, Meghan Wilson scored the goal and Fran Ratcliffe was The Player of the Match.

United win battle of Mill Hill

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 3 fixtures last weekend their Senior Men’s side took on high flying Mill Hill from Blackburn beating them 4-3. United with 8 players unavailable through work commitments, illness and injuries battled through the game with only 11 fit players, Borrowdale went 1-0 down after 30 minutes but went in at half time with a 1-1 draw with a great headed goal from Dan Henry. Mark Philips with 2 and a spectacular 30 yard free kick from The Man of the Match Antony Young won the game for the Burnley side in the second half.

United’s Ladies went out of their Cup competition with a 14-2 drubbing at the hands of a very professional outfit AFC Urmston, The Player of the Match Michelle Grimes scored both goals.

Under 15’s lost 5-1 to Baxenden. Nathan McMullen scored the goal and Josh Whitehead was The Man of the Match.

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had just 2 fixtures last weekend their Senior Men’s side lost 4-1 when they took on league leaders Langho. The Burnley side without 3 first team players because of illness never really got to grips with the game, many decisions going against them, , Mark Philips score the goal and The Man of the Match was Antony Young.

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 2 fixtures last weekend their Under 15’s lost in the second round of the Cup 3-2 to AKZO. This was a very tight game throughout nothing in it. Shane Hudson scored both goals, Adam Simpson was The Man of the Match.

Under 14’s lost 6-1 when they took on Clitheroe, Callum Brown scored the goal and The Man of the Match was Josh Horner.

Borrowdale Ladies 0 v 9 Everton Ladies!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 5 fixtures last week their Senior Men were able to field a near full side for the first time this season and it produced some great football and the 3 points winning 2-0 against Goodshaw United. The Man of the Match Antony Young scored from 25 yards and the prolific Mark Philips on target yet again. The addition of Thompson and Henry at the back has been a great bonus.

Senior Ladies took on a very strong Everton side losing 9-0. The Player of the Match was Michelle Grimes.

Under 15 Girls lost 18-1 to Penwortham a side who has not lost a game for 3 years, Hannah Woods scored the consolation goals and Sheree Wilkinson was The Player of the Match.

Under 15 lost 5-0 to Rishton, James Cowgill was The Man of the Match.

Under 14 lost 4-3 to Globe, Anthony Bradley scored a hat-trick and Craig Martin was The Man of the Match.

Membership Fees

The commitee would like to remind all players that we still havent recieved all membership fees in yet, please could we sort this as soon as possible. Also we are looking to run a quiz and curry night very shortly for the adult teams at the club and parents of the younger teams are very welcome. I need feedback on this before I book the venue, please contact Ken Inckle for details and places available, the cost will be £10 per person with all proceeds going to the club.

Also remember our club shop is open and available to buy your christmas presents from, doing this is perfectly safe and secure and the club recieves a small percentage of the cost of your sale direct from the retailer. The Man of the Match was Antony Young.

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 games last week their Senior Men’s side took on Stacksteads St Josephs losing 3-0, in a game that was a lot closer than the score suggests, United went 2-0 down in a mad 10 minutes spell at the start of the game, they came back into it creating chances for Mark Philips, Antony Young and Paul Fletcher. The team worked hard in the second half trying get that goal unfortunately leaving gaps at the back giving Stacksteads too much room and handing them their third. The Man of the Match was Mark Harrison.

Senior Women’s Side took on a very strong Liverpool side again with only 10 players losing 3-2, Michelle Grimes and Sarah Darcy scored the goals and Charley Ross was The Player of the Match.

Under 15 beat Clitheroe Wolves 5-2 with 2 goals each from Richard Cunningham and The Man of the Match Adam Simpson and 1 from Michael Martin,

Under 14 were held to a 2-2 draw with Rossendale Valley, Daniel Martin and Ryan Bench scored the goals and Callum Brown and Dion Clegg share The Man of the Match Award.

Tough on United!!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 3 games last weekend their Senior Men’s side were held to a 1-1 draw with Stacksteads St Josephs last Saturday the Burnley side scored early on through Mark Philips and in the last minute gave away a hotly disputed free kick on the edge of the box, Stacksteads took it and scored. Mark Hardacre was outstanding for the Burnley side closely followed by Mark Harrison in goal for United.

The Senior Ladies side took on table toppers Leigh R.M.I. with only 10 players losing a good game 5-1.

Sarah McCabe scored the goal and Faye Hall was The Player of the Match.

Under 14’s lost in the Cup 9-4 to Oswaldtwistle, Anthony Bradley took all the plaudits scored all 4 goals and was awarded The Man of the Match.

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 6 games last weekend their Senior Men’s side beat Peel Park 2-1, United had chances early on but failed to find the back of the net, both goals came from Paul Fletcher, the Man of the Match was Mark Hardacre.

United’s Ladies side took on the Manchester Stingers and got stung 5-1.Sarah Darcy scored the goal and Michelle Grimes was The Player of the Match.

Under 15 Girls took the long road to Brandlesholme losing 6-4. Scorers were Steph Johnson 2 and 1 each from Gemma Holt and Hannah Woods. The Player of the Match was Meghan Wilson

Under 15 boys beat high flying Blackburn Town 1-0 Adain Holgate scored the goal and Alex Stewart was The Man of the Match.

Under 14’s were held to a 4-4 draw with Gt Harwood, Anthony Bradley 2, Jack Nuttall and Callum Brown with 1 each. The Man of the Match was Dion Clegg.

Ladies put the knot in Ash.....

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 games last week their Senior Men’s team fell to pieces losing 5-0 to Goodshaw United, the first half was pretty even with both sides going close, Once Goodshaw opened their account United folded. Anthony Young was The Man of the Match,but how Ash Williams worked his socks off from start to finish.

The Open Age Women’s team took on Knotty Ash winning 3-0 with Annie Stratford running the full length of the pitch to score a screamer, Charlie Ross and Sarah McCabe completed the scoring Lindsay Shearer was The Player of the Match.

The Under 15’s lost a very tight game 1-0. The Man of the Match Award was shared between Nicolo Manta and the impressive Nabashar Iqbal.

The Under 14’s lost 4-2 to Oswaldtwistle, Daniel Martin and Anthony Bradley scored the goals and Scott Martin and Zac Uttley shared The Man of the Match Award.

Under 15s ship 16 goals!!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 5 games last weekend their Senior Men’s team lost 3-1 to League leaders Langho they matched for the majority of the game and then gave them 2 goals, one an own goal and then a free shot from 4yards out. United’s goal was scored by the prolific Mark Philips, he also earned The Man of the Match Award. The whole team played well against a very good side but let themselves down in the end.

The Open Age Women’s side took on Pheonix losing 4-3 in the very last second of the game. The scorers were Lindsay Shearer with 2 and Debbie Higgins with the third. United hit the woodwork on no less than 3 occasions and had another 2 or 3 chances but could not find the back of the net. Sarah McCabe was The Player of the Match.



Under 15 Girls took on high flying Penwortham in their cup tie, they lost 16-4. The Player of the Match Meghan Wilson and Steph Johnson scored 2 each.

Under 15 lost 8-1 when they took on AKZO, Rob Ingham scored the goal and Michael Martin was The Man of the Match.

Under 14 won 8-1 against locals Brierfield Celtic, the goal scorers were Anthony Bradley with 4 and 1 each from Josh Holmes, Jack Nuttal, Dion Clegg and The Man of the Match Callum Brown.

Borrowdale United FC opens first online store!!

Borrowdale United Chairman Mr Ken Inckle was said to be very pleased as he looked for the first time on the club shop on Uniteds website.
Designed and Implemented by Scott Threlfall the clubs Fundraising Co-ordinator the shop earns commissions for the club everytime anyone uses it to shop.
"Its a big step forward for the club" said Mr Threlfall.

Men win the battle of Kelbrook!!

Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 games last weekend their Senior Men’s side got back to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Kelbrook. The goals came from The Man of the Match Antony Young 2 and 1 each from Paul Fletcher, Mark Philips and Ash Williams. Young was outstanding his first goal was from fully 30 yards, Ash Williams was strong and very attack minded he took his 25 yard goal very well.

United’s Women took on high flying Chorley losing 10-0. United with players missing through injuries and holidays were outplayed by a very strong side.

Under 15’s lost 4-1 to Baxenden, The Man of the Match Shane Hudson scored the goal and was superb throughout a very tough game.

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 games last weekend their Senior Women’s side took on a very good Burscough side losing 4-0. United with only 10 players available fought well throughout, Sarah McCabe was amazing, she thoroughly deserved The Player of the Match Award she covered every blade of grass.

Under 15 Girls took on a strong AGSA side losing 9-2, Meghan Wilson sdcored both goals and Hannah Woods was The Player of the Match.

U/15 were held to a 2-2 by Oswaldtwistle, Alex Noon and Nabashar Iqbal scored the goals and Rob Ingham was The Man of the Match.

U/14 lost 4-1 to Globe, Daniel Martin scored the goal and Anthony Bradley was The Man of the Match.

Under 15's gain valuable win

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 7 games last week, their Senior men’s side had a tough Thursday night fixture away at Rimington which they lost 5-2, the goals came from Gary Smith and a 25 yard cracker from Mark Philips. The Man of the Match was Mark Philips.

They then took on high flying Rock Rovers losing 2-0. This was a very good game and if United had put away the many chances created the score would have been different. The Man of the Match was Mark Crossley.

The Senior Ladies side beat Pheonix 2-0, Lindsay Shearer and Sarah Darcey scored the goals and Michelle Grimes was The Player of the Match.

Then the Ladies took on Wigan Athletic losing 4-1, Michelle Grimes scored the goal and Sarah McCabe was The Player of the Match.



Under 14’s took on Gt Harwood losing a good game 4-2. Anthony Bradley and Jason Mottershead scored the goals, Dion Clegg was The Man of the Match.

They then played Rossendale Valley gaining a very creditable 4-4 draw. Anthony Bradley, Daniel Martin and The Man of the Match Callum Brown scored the goals.

Under 15’s beat Haslingden 2-1 with the goals coming from Adain Holgate and The Man of the Match Alex Noon.

Loss and a draw for Mens team in opening encounters!!

Borrowdale United Football Club had 4 games last week their newly promoted Senior Men’s side lost 3-0 away to Worsthorne, United were holding Worsthorne 0-0 until the last 15 minutes, United make 3 mistakes, they scored the 3 goals from the mistakes, game over. Chris Green was the Man of the Match. They then took on Colne winning a very good game 2-1, goals came from Mark Hardacre and new signing Mickey Boyle. The Man of the match was Antony Young.

United’s Senior Women’s side beat Blackpool 3-2, with the goals coming from Faye Hall, Lindsay Shearer and an og. Player of the Match was Melissa Kelly.

Under 14’s lost 9-0 to Oswaldtwistle, the Man of the Match was Callum Brown.

Under 16's Win Title!

Borrowdale United Football Clubs Under 16’s won their Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn & District Junior & Youth Football League Under 16’s title by beating St Josephs 1-0 in a play off. The Burnley side played the better football throughout and thoroughly deserved their victory. Luke Thompson scored the goal and was The Man of the Match.

This ends a very good year for the Club with the Senior Men’s team gaining promotion and winning the Cup in The East Lancs League, the Under 16’s with their Championship and the Under 14 Girls winning their League. The other sides finished in respectable positions in their various leagues.

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had the greatest night of all so far last night when their Senior Men’s side collected a well earned double, already gaining promotion to the First Division of The East Lanc’s League they beat Barrowford Y.C.W. 4-1 in The Final of The Bob Little Cup. United 1-0 down early on had to work hard and battle to get back on level terms early in the second half through a tremendous effort by Antony Young. Once that goal went in the Burnley side took command and we saw goals from Mark Philips with 2 and 1 from Paul Fletcher. The Man of the Match Award picked by Mr. Bob Little was presented by him to Borrowdale United’s Mark Philips.

This was an excellent advert for local amateur football played in the best of spirits.

Men's team gain promotion!!

Burnley Borrowdale United Football Club had 7 games last week, United’s Senior Men’s side celebrated promotion to the first division by booking a place in the Final of the Bob Little Cup by beating Clitheroe 3-2. Ashley Williams, Chris Walker and Mark Philips scored the goals, Chris Walker and Mark Harrison share The Man of the Match Award.

Then they beat Sabden 3-1, the goals came from Scott Threlfall, Gary Smith and Sean Davies. The Man of the Match was Mark Hardacre.

Then they beat Clitheroe R.B.L. 2-1. An outstanding goal from Antony Young and 1 from Mark Philips The Man of the Match was Mark Hardacre. This was 4 games in 8 days the players looked tired at times.

Women’s Open Age side had a great 2-1 win over Blackpool, Michelle Grimes and Mel Kelly scored the goals and Jane Lofthouse was The Player of the Match, this was an excellent team performance with some good football being played at times.

Then they took on high flying Knotty Ash and earned a brilliant 1-1 draw, Lyndsey Shearer scored the goal and Sarah McCabe was The Player of the Match. United played some good football and to be honest had the chances to win the game.

Borrowdale United Football Clubs Senior Men’s side take on Barrowford YCW in the Final of the Bob Little Cup at The Arbories, 7pm kick off on Tuesday 8th May 2007. Many of these lads have been with us since they were 10 year old. This season has been one of the finest so far, Promotion and a Cup Final.
